HOONING, speeding and erratic driving behaviour will be the target of a mini blitz by Hamilton Police on traffic offences in the streets around the outdoor swimming pool in Hamilton.
Hamilton police sergeant, Kelly McNaughton, said they had received multiple reports of dangerous driving behaviour in the streets around the pool that have put members of the public at risk.
“We are responding to posts on a Hamilton Facebook page which has reported dangerous and erratic behaviour including at Hamilton Place and Eversley Street and that they are becoming unsafe because of this hooning that goes on,” she said.
“Multiple people have commented that they can hear the vehicles driving at speed and disobeying traffic laws, so we’ve tasked van crews to focus on that area to enforce the traffic laws and make it safe.
“We encourage any members of the public with any concerns they have about driver behaviour that makes it unsafe in the residential areas to make contact with us.
“We are only too happy to hear from them - whether they ring the station or come in or post their concerns on Facebook - we are only too happy to receive them.”
Sergeant McNaughton said police were also working with the Southern Grampians Shire Council to provide more accessible social media avenues to report things like this, to get immediate action.
“I would like to thank the public for raising this matter and would like them to know we take this seriously and we are pleased that someone has alerted us to this safety issue,” she said.
“Everyone deserves to live in safety and peace and that’s our job to ensure that that happens.
“If anyone has any more feedback in relation to unsafe driving practices anywhere, we would love to hear from them as well.”
