A YOUNG Portland scout has found his persistent efforts in the community worth it, as he is the first to earn the cub scout award since 2018.
Mitchell Beswick has worked hard over his time as a Joey Scout, earning him 15 badges in total, of which he wears on his uniform with pride.
He has learnt skills such as how to use a compass, what to do in the bush and other things to do with camp craft and camping, but he didn’t find it all that easy.
Scouts isn’t the only place he practices his skills though, as he has happily shared with another about fire safety while camping with his mum and dad.
The eight-year-old first joined the scouts while activities had to be moved online and over facetime due to Covid-19 restrictions and has since attended regularly.
Starting off he earned his introduction to scouting badge, leading onto three core badges, and six Special Interest Areas badges over at least two different areas, two hours each.
That was led by an adventurous journey out at Lake Fyans, where two other Joeys, four Venturers, one Cub and two Scouts hiked 11 kilometres, which Mitchell said was “easy.”
To cap off his journey as a Joey, Mitchell had to give a personal reflection on what he had enjoyed most as a scout.
Now as a Cub, he will be beginning a brand-new journey working his way from the bottom to the top once more, learning new skills and smashing out new achievements.
