Merino students getting crafty for their school and the community
Charli, Joy, Steph and Rylan - Newspaper Club - Merino Consolidated School
OVER the last term and a half, we have been working on designing and creating a school sign using hundreds of different coloured bottled caps.
As part of our design we agreed our school motto – ‘Where everybody is somebody’ – should be featured.
We each selected a colour that would be our focus for sticking on to the wood board.
In our Hands on Learning classes, we have each taken turns to work on this.
We have been working on this for at least two terms!
It’s really cool to be able to see it now that it’s finished - I think it’s super colourful and I really like it!
School on-air
LAST week, we went on our bus for a school excursion to Hamilton’s MIXX FM radio station.
We learned how a radio station works and at the end we got to record our very own advertisement!
We felt both nervous and excited sitting in the recording booth, speaking our lines.
We were given a tour of the radio station and we got to meet the people that speak on the radio.
It was interesting to learn about the complex operations of the radio station, from the time limits of advertisements and news segments, to what happens if they accidently go off air.
Sharing Christmas spirit
FOR the last two years Merino CS helps Uniting Way and makes Christmas cards for people receiving Christmas Hampers.
If you receive a hamper from Uniting Way, then you will get a Christmas card made by us here at Merino!
Crafty Digby ladies
EACH Friday, the Digby Knitting Ladies come to our school and help us with an art project.
This term we are making a sheep with wool.
We are learning about different wool crafting techniques.
The ladies have been teaching us how to crochet. This has been a fun yet challenging task to learn.
To construct our sheep, we are crocheting various tones of blue and navy wool to hessian, this will form the body of our sheep.
We are very grateful to have the ladies from Digby are working with us to make our own sheep.
