Huge boost to community groups as WorkSkills wound up

THERE were plenty of happy community groups at the Portland Golf Club on Thursday night as Portland WorkSkills handed out more than $1.5 million. WorkSkills long-serving executive officer Bernard Wallace is at front left and almost as long-serving chairman Michael Hunter at front right with the major recipients Des Hein and Joy Hocken (Portland Cable Trams), Julie Amor and Cathi Bawden (Kyeema Support Services), Phyll Harvey and Jen Johns (Friends of the Great South West Walk) and Myra Bourke and Sue Rieffel (Seaview House).

LOCAL community groups and schools have shared in a bonanza of more than $1.5 million, following the winding up of Portland WorkSkills.

The organisation, which has closed down after 33 years running accredited training and adult education in the community, held a farewell dinner at the Portland Golf Club on Thursday night.
