Warmer weather arrives right on cue

THERE is no doubting which season Casterton is in now, after both days of the first weekend of December managed to reach low thirties with another small surge in temperatures coming soon.

A high of 30.1 degrees was recorded on Saturday, 3 December, according to Bureau of Meteorology data, before Sunday nearly went a full degree further at 31.9.

Monday morning’s 12 degrees was the highest minimum temperature at the time, after the first three days of the month hovered below the nine degree mark.

The average temperatures for the first few days of December are a low of 9.7 degrees and a high of 26.4 – below and above the December norms respectively.

The warming weather follows on from the cold and wet much of Victoria experienced during the last two spring months.

While the middle of the week is dipping back below 20, temperatures are expected to rise again this weekend to 27 degrees on Saturday and 29 degrees on Sunday, with a double-digit minimum also expected for the latter.

The first week of December has been completely dry so far and the rest of this week is expected to remain that way.

Recapping November

CASTERTON recorded a total of 96.2 millimetres of rainfall throughout November – falling 10 short of its record historical total for the month.

The town had been dumped with 106.6 millimetres in the same month back in 2007 while the average rainfall for the month stands at 41.2.

The top daily rainfall recorded in November this year was 22 millimetres on Sunday 20, nearly double the next highest.

However, the last week of the month was a mostly dry spell which has so far continued into December.

Temperatures finished off slightly cooler than average at a high of 19 degrees and a low of 8.9 degrees.

The highest temperature recorded was 27.5 degrees on Wednesday 9 and the lowest was just four degrees on Friday 4.
