Maroona to Portland freight rail line business case ready for submission

GLENELG Shire Council and Port of Portland representatives recently met with the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) and senior State Government representatives in Adelaide to finalise a business case to upgrade the Maroona to Portland railway line.

The line, which is 173 kilometres long and runs through Hamilton, is the only track to and from the Port of Portland and can currently only run a 19-tonne axle load, meaning trains cannot travel faster than 40 kilometres per hour.
