Battle to be boss returns to Blueberry

MOTORCYCLING enthusiasts of the district have something else to look forward to in the new year, with the Casterton Sporting Motorcycle Club’s Hill Climb poised to once again leave its mark on Blueberry Hill in April.

Since the event first returned to local calendars in 2017 – following a 15-year hiatus – the Hill Climb quickly became one of the top events in Casterton and club president, Shane Foster said its 2019 edition had recorded one of the largest crowds.

“Unfortunately, Covid’s put a stop to it for a few years,” he said.

As one of the few remaining events in the region waiting to make its comeback, Mr Foster said the club was keen to see it in continue where it left off in 2019.

“There’s always a lot of interest from riders,” he said.

“It’s pretty unique, so it brings people from all over.”

The Hill Climb first started in the 1980s with great success before eventually entering a lull.

More than 15 years after the first portion of its history came to a close, it proved to be as popular as ever in its revival as it attracted more than 70 riders from three states.

Mr Foster said the club was keen to be able to have the event back up and running once again as soon as possible.

“We’re pretty fortunate, we’ve got plenty of sponsors,” he said.

While the date of Saturday, 15 April has been proposed it is yet to be locked in, with the club waiting to ensure it does not clash with other local events on the day such as Western Border football and netball fixtures.
