Next Music in the Gardens session

FOLLOWING the success of the first ‘Music in the Gardens’ performance (formerly known as Pleasant Sunday Afternoons), held in Hamilton’s Botanic Gardens on Sunday, December 4, anticipation is building for the next show on January 8, 2023.

Between the hours of 2-4pm, the audience can enjoy authentic Aussie music performed by well-known local musos, Peter Cook OAM on guitar and Peter Milburn on banjo.

The two Peters won’t be the only set for the afternoon and will share the rotunda’s stage with other local musicians and performers, bringing a wide variety to the event.

They will be joined by local vocalist with recorded backing, Em, along with local country and western singer, Johnny Lovett on guitar and vocals.

The Hamilton Bootscooters will ‘scoot’ along to the live music with a line dancing presentation and local, Toni McDonald, will accompany on violin.

Assisting with putting the line up together, Peter Cook was delighted with the breadth of local talent who agreed to contribute to the afternoon’s program.

“There’s Peter Milburn – well, you know him from the Evergreens,” he said.

“Johnny Lovett … everybody knows him.

“Em is a lovely singer and I think people will really enjoy her vocals and Toni McDonald on violin, she can pretty much play anything.”

Hamilton Bootscooters’ leader, Linda Rook said the group had around 50 members and were looking forward to the afternoon of music and dance.

“We can dance along to anything,” she said.

This is the second of four ‘Music in the Gardens’ performances; one will be held each month for the summer period.

Friends of the Hamilton Botanic Gardens’ committee member, Jane Heazlewood has been charged with organising the events.

“I just hope the weather will be fine,” she said.

“I am really looking forward to it.”
