A big week for the kids

IT was a huge turnout on the first day of the annual Portland SUFM Kids’ Program on Tuesday.

Parents were pleased to sit back and relax with a free cup of coffee at the Civic Hall, while their kids took part in activities supervised and coordinated by the Scripture United Family Mission team.

Kids were able to get crafty by decorating personal letters, and colouring in paper cut-outs shaped like people.

And for the kids who weren’t feeling so creative, they got active outside with a game of octopus tag, soccer, or whatever they may have felt like.

Mum of three Natasha Brand said it was her first time bringing her three children to the annual program.

“The leaders get in and look after them,” she said.

“I’ve enjoyed the social interaction and chilling for a change.”

The Kids’ Program ran 2.30pm until 4pm every day from Tuesday to Friday this week, as well as the Summer Festival 6pm to 8pm down on the foreshore with something different for families to do every night.

A free carwash was also conducted, with a line-up of 45 cars at the Portland Baptist Church, including a racing car.
