AGENTS yarded 29,780 lambs at Hamilton on Wednesday being significantly lower than the previous market reduced by some 14,000 head.
The overall quality was good with a noticeable plainer tail and the younger and smaller lambs displayed continued dryness.
There was good weight in the top end lambs with the shorn lambs attracting keen competition from the trade and restockers alike.
The regular buyers were joined by a strong contingent of store buyers, creating a market that was stronger for lambs to the trade in excess of 22 kilograms being $5 to $8 per head dearer however, in places, a percentage store lambs returning to the paddock were $10 to $15p/hd softer with the shorn types remaining close to firm.
The top lambs sold to $247p/hd and new season light lambs 12 to 16kg sold from $75 to $132p/hd with the 18 to 22kg making from $145 to $192p/hd to average around 780 cents per kilogram.
Medium weight trade lambs 22 to 26kg made from $169 to $222p/hd to average between 720 and 800c/kg.
Heavy lambs in excess of 26kg averaged around 840c/kg if quality was evident.
