Vehicle kills endangered plover chick at Bridgewater beach

BRIDGEWATER locals and bird lovers generally were shocked to learn on Sunday morning that a hooded plover chick, just one week old and an endangered species, had been killed overnight on Cape Bridgewater beach.

The eight-day-old chick, a long anticipated addition to Victoria’s dwindling hooded plover population, was found crushed to death beside fresh car tyre tracks, following an alleged party on the beach.
