A WAGE dispute that has been brewing at the Portland Aluminium smelter for several months is about to face its crucial test.

About 40 trades staff – those responsible for in-house maintenance and members of either the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union or Electrical Trades Union – at the smelter have taken protected industrial action since December in support of their wage claims for their new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.
