Heywood Consolidated welcomes new preps

TWELVE new students were welcomed into Heywood Consolidated School this year, and they’re fitting in just nicely.

Thanks to five transition sessions last year, there were no tears amongst the preps on their first day and there were no worried parents, as they adjusted comfortably.

Luckily for a few of the kids too, they have an older brother, sister or cousin to look out for them, including an older buddy from grade four or five, which every foundation student has.

Grade ones in the same class have also been enjoying the responsibility as role models.

Foundation/one teacher Sallie Field said the students have gotten along very well and done a really good job at so far learning and adjusting to routine.

“They just love being here with each other, and we do a check out circle at the end of the day and they say ‘I'm grateful for my friends’, so they just love having their friends around,” she said.

“They’re a beautiful group of kids and we've been lucky having that connection with the Early Learning Centre in Heywood kinder.

“The transition has been pretty smooth.

“I've gotten to know the parents and the parents have been great.”
