‘Absolutely fantastic’

IT just keeps getting bigger and better.

That’s the only conclusion to be drawn after the eighth annual Classics by the Bay show ‘n’ shine was run on the Portland foreshore on Saturday.

Portland Bay Classic Vehicles president Craig Dennert said an estimated 4000-4500 people, the largest attendance the event has had, enjoyed almost perfect weather conditions.

They saw 327 cars and motorbikes, another record number.

“We had room left for 12 vehicles,” Mr Dennert said.

“It was fantastic, we are over the moon, this is by far the best show we’ve run yet.”

The Shannons rig was particularly popular – a counter at the entry ticked over 3860 people – while Fletch from the television show Classic Restos was busy interviewing plenty of locals to feature on the program in a few weeks.

The Ford Falcon was the feature vehicle and most years turned up – just a couple of later models were missing.

Mr Dennert said club members did a fantastic job on the day and along with the event’s many sponsors he also wanted to thank the Rotary Club of Portland who supplied the barbecue and the TS Henty naval cadets who manned the gates.

And now it’s all systems go for 2024.

“Between myself and Fletch we’ve got some big stuff booked in for next year,” Mr Dennert said.
