New blood on the track at state championships

DUNROBIN/Nangeela Fire Brigade has once again put in outstanding performances against the state’s best at the VFBV CFA State Firefighter Championships at Maroopna.

The brigade entered four senior teams and two junior teams and welcomed new competitors Ash McCombe, Bethany Cattell, Caitlin Muecke, Myles Black and Jake McCombe, who experience the championships for the first time, as well as Peter Black who pulled on the runners again after a 20-year absence.

On the Saturday of competition, the brigade’s seniors placed second in the Pumping and Priming Event, third in the Low Down Pump and Ladder in both Division 1 and Division 2 and placed third in the Tanker Hose Reel and Ladder.

In the individual competitions, Erin Munro placed second in the senior women’s fire fighter sprint over 50 metres.

On the Sunday, the juniors placed third in the Wet Hose and Ladder Event and fourth in two other competitions.

Dunrobin/Nangeela captain, Kelvin Bateman said his brigade was grateful to all the members who represented them this year and thanked all the parents and supporters who helped with training and transportation to Mooroopna.

“Special thank you to David and Susie for allowing the brigade to train at their property,” he said.

The state championships return to Maroopna in 2024 and anyone who is interested in joining the brigade’s competition team is invited to contact Ben Pevitt.
