WHAT can you make with some wool and knitting needles? Beanies.
Rotary Club of Portland and Seaview Real Estate have partnered together to take on one goal – to knit 100 beanies.
The beanies are purposed to give warmth to those who need it as winter approaches, including Mission to Seafarers, as it gets especially cold on the waters.
Rotary Club of Portland director of international services Erin Barker said she gave her committee four things she would like to achieve this year.
“One of them was to do 100 beanies, specifically for local international which means Mission for Seafarers,” she said.
“In the last probably three years, I've made sure there's been a bunch of beanies for the mission, because the seafarers always need them.
“The seafarers always need beanies, because they're always out on the ocean.”
However, a few extra hands are needed to knit the beanies.
Seaview is currently supplying anyone who is willing to give it a go, knitting kits including a beanie pattern and enough wool to use.
Kits can be picked up from Seaview Real Estate 125 Percy Street and once done knitting, the beanie or beanies can be dropped back off on the same location.
About 40 have so far been made, but there is still more knitting to do.
