THE footpath along Lonsdale Street has received a big facelift in recent weeks.
Former Southern Grampians Shire (SGSC) mayor and one of the longest serving council members, Albert Calvano, said a big thank you was due to the Shire’s director of infrastructure, Marg Scanlon, and her staff for the renewal of the footpath which is frequently used by the general public and mobility scooters.
Cr Calvano put in a councillor’s request alerting to the old state of the footpath.
“On our way home from a meeting the director asked me if we could stop and see this particular request,” he said.
“The director took a couple of photographs of the site and within a couple of weeks Council trucks and staff arrived and told me of the proposal.
“I was so proud of the response and the short length of time the workers took to dig out the old path and reinstall the new path.
“Because of the facilities within WDHS and the Clinic, this footpath in Lonsdale Street is commonly used by the public, therefore it is essential that this footpath is maintained for all users.
“So once again a big thank you to all concerned.”
Cr Calvano also pointed out the danger of the large tree on the corner of Lonsdale and Foster Streets and how it is a potential hazard to the public for branches to fall down onto pedestrians and cars parked nearby.
