ON TUESDAY, 10 February, the Grade 6 students, along with some Grade 5 students, took part in the Lion’s Youth of the Year Public Speaking Competition.
Each student had spent time researching, writing, and practising their speeches over several weeks.
The students chose a topic of interest to present to Lion’s Club members.
The students’ topics were as follows:
Annabell – Why you should own a cat.
Ebony – Riding motorbikes
Brody – Hattah Desert Race
Darcy – Vickery Brothers
Phoenix – Wolves
Stacey – Irish Draught Horses
Brooklyn – Rocklands
Holli – English shorthair cats
Isabella – The Big Lobster
Ruby – Axolotls
Coopa – The History of Cars
Mitchell – Essendon Football Club
Fletcher – Why we should learn.
Riley – The Internet is awesome.
Lacey – Saving our Koalas.
Ruby – My dachshunds
Bridie – Reducing the use of plastics.
All students were nervous but completed their speeches, which they should be proud of.
After much discussion between the members of the Lion’s Club the winners were decided – Bridie and Brooklyn.
Well done girls.
They each received a gift voucher from the newsagent.
All students received a certificate for their efforts.
Mother’s Day Stall
EACH year we run a Mother’s Day stall for students to take home a special gift and show gratitude to the special people in our lives we care for so much.
This year the Hands on Learning students took this a step further and offered to make the gifts for the stall.
Producing handmade bottles of relish, they did everything from growing the tomatoes, to making and bottling, through to hand packaging, ready for students to transport home.
Grade teachers supported their work by creating special cards and poems to go home too.
Everyone did a fabulous job and built up some great cooking and team skills in the process.
If you enjoy a good relish, pop into the school office, leftover jars are available for $5.
