NEWSPAPER CLUB

MERINO CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL

LAST week we were so lucky to have Ally back to do another football clinic with us.

We revisited some past skills from the last session last term like zombie fingers and holding the football and hand along it like a pancake and ice cream.

We played new games and I was first to hit the white post and win our school a new football.

I was very excited and proud to get that for my school. All my friends cheered for me.

Japanese

IN JAPANESE we have just finished learning about families and the names of our family members in Japanese.

Mum and dad is Okaasan and Otousan in Japanese. Next week we are starting to learn about pets in Japanese.

I love that I get to do Japanese each week.

Mother’s Day

IN CLASS we made special recounts for our mum to put into Mother’s Day cards.

My recount was about shopping with mum and my recount was about cleaning the dairy with my mum.

It’s important to celebrate our mums because they love us and they pay the bills and giving them a Mother’s Day card will make them feel happy.

Digby craft ladies

EACH week we are still knitting with the Digby knitting ladies.

They come each week and are helping us to knit a whole other sheep so that Digby can have a friend.

For this new sheep we are all trying out different stiches and learning new knitting styles.

So far I have learned five new knitting styles.

My favourite is cable stich.

Math focus

LATELY, I’ve set new goals for my learning and I really want to focus on math this term.

I’ve been working hard in class with Ms Hulin and working out of a Year 8 maths book.

Currently, I’ve been working on algebra and working on solving fractional equations in algebra.

I really like it because it makes me think.

Ms Hulin explains it to me and then I work on the questions from the text book.

When I finish algebra, I will be working on solving ratio questions.

IN MATHS we have been learning about different clocks and how to tell the time. On the floor we made a big round clock.

We learnt that the big hand is the minutes, and the little hand is the hours.

We made different times on the analogue clock moving the hands and then we wrote the time in digital on a whiteboard.

We were making o’clock, half past and quarter past.

Writing

LAST week in literacy we continued to learn about Recounts.

A recount is telling a story about the past.

Recounts have a title, an orientation, events, and an ending.

Last week we made different endings to a recount on the board.

Some of our endings where about what made us happy, our favourite part and our worst parts of the recount event on the board.

Trivia

WE HAD a really fun trivia night at our school last week.

The students got to choose questions for a round of questions, my question was about how many neck bones were in a giraffe compared to a human neck.

It was a trick question because the answer is that ‘there is no difference’.

We had a raffle and we gave out heaps of spot prizes. Ryan and I helped sell raffle tickets on the night.

Garden

THE days are getting colder and shorter which means for us in the garden we are now planting our winter veggies.

Last week, we planted broccoli and cauliflower.

We also finished digging the last of our carrots.

We have dug the garden over and put mulch down to stop weeds growing and to keep the newly planted veggies warm.

We also have planted lots and lots and lots of tulips!

Ms Hulin has bought lots of different varieties and we can’t wait to see them when they flower later on this year.

Cooking

EVERY Friday we cook in our own kitchen here at Merino CS.

Last week we cooked our very own Fish and Chips. We dug out our own potatoes from the ground and roasted them in the oven.

We had fresh barramundi fish and green beans and carrots. The carrots were from our garden too.
