Coastal Cliffs plans for World Environment Day

AS World Environment Day is approaching, Portland Coastal Cliffs Inc are set to celebrate.

This Saturday, starting from 9.30am a special community event will be held at Nuns Beach with the group extending an invitation to epopel to socialise, listen to music, make some art and maybe do a spot of weeding and planting.

The event is just two days before World Environment Day on June 5, so the Coastal Cliffs team is keen for the community to get involved in caring for the Nuns Beach and cliff area.

The morning will begin with a smoking ceremony conducted by Shea Rotumah near the barbecue shelter on Nuns Beach. Mr Rotumah will share knowledge about the area.

Followed at 10am, local artist Therese Coffey will be taking the lead in a crafting activity for kids, by building a nest out of collected driftwood.

Morning tea will then commence at 11am, accompanied with musical entertainment by musician Jill Ackroyd.

Refreshments will be provided, but the community is also invited to bring along their own food or drink.

Then next on the agenda is some extra weeding and planting a little further along the beach.

“Our weeding area of focus has been in front of the steps because what's down there has grown in the last two years. We completely cleared that previously with another group of young adults,” Portland Coastal Cliffs Debb Oakley said.

“We will do a bit of weeding there and we could do some sustainable planting.”

For catering purposes, people willing to attend can RSVP on the Portland Coastal Cliffs Inc Facebook page under the posted event.
