Curly’s crash fundraiser kicks off bidding

CURLY’s Pizza held a fundraiser on Saturday where people from Hamilton, Portland, Casterton, Warrnambool and Nullawarre came together to help raise much needed funds for the families who were affected by the Bochara crash.

The remaining items from Saturday’s auction have now moved online to Curly’s Facebook page with the following products for sale; a Makita hammer drill donated by Mesh & Masonry; Hydraulic trolley jack donated by Autopro Hamilton; plant stands, sleeping bags, a Ryobi hammer drill and a Weber barbeque donated by Bunnings Hamilton; assorted scentsy packs donated by Sherri Heffernan; Husqvarna eski and hat donated by Barry Francis Motorcycles; and assorted t-shirts and travel coffee mugs donated by Repco Australia.

Curly’s owner, Aaron Lang, said the Patriots Motorcycle Club (Patriots) arrived first on Saturday, followed by people from the community, with some even stopping on Coleraine Road just to throw money towards the donation.

“You could say for a period of time Coleraine Road was a symphonic of car horns honking as they drove past,” he said.

“As soon as the Patriots had left there was another group of really nice custom Harley Davidsons that parked in the vacant block with the jumping castle.”

The fundraiser went longer than initially planned, with families enjoying the barbeque and watching their children jumping on the castle.

Mr Lang said it was thrilling to see that Hamilton being a small community can come strongly together in a time of need and “that’s what it’s all about”.

“Any donation, any smile seen on a child’s face while jumping on the castle, was an unfeigned delight for me,” he said.

“It was great to hear there was another fundraiser event in The Hub, this was good news to hear that anyone that may not of attended the barbeque could have been at the Hub to help donate.

“What a great community we have, any donation at any community event is just fantastic community spirit.”

Curly’s Facebook page is running the auction this week and there is a huge amount of locally donated items to view.

Curly’s said they are unsure of the amount that they have raised at this stage as the items sold on their Facebook page will go straight to the fundraiser total.

“We will collect all the funds and contribute them anonymously towards the online GoFundMe page,” he said.

“We also had a sealed money tin on the day and that will be opened and counted by the bank.”

The GoFundMe page has currently raised $14,267.
