THE Bunnings store planned for Portland’s outskirts has received the all-clear to proceed, but there is no timeline yet.
Plans for the $15 million development hit a hurdle in January when the decision by Glenelg Shire Council to approve the project for a store on the corner of New St and the Portland Ring Rd (Henty Hwy) was appealed to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
A hearing on the matter was scheduled for VCAT last week.
However, a VCAT spokesman said the applicant withdrew in June, so the hearing never happened.
Now the way is clear for the development, which spans more than 5000 square metres and promises about 50 ongoing jobs as well as 35 during construction, when will it get underway?
Bunnings is not sure yet.
Regional manager Dave Roddis said: “We’re currently reviewing the development approval and hope to progress our plans to bring a new Bunnings store to Portland, which would create over 50 new jobs.”
“It’s still early days and no construction timelines have been confirmed, but we’ll be sure to keep the community updated as we move forward,” he said.
