40cm cut off for Hair with Heart

LAST Friday Penshurst local Jedah Huf cut off her hair to help raise money for Hair with Heart, having raised $1131 so far.

Hair with Heart is the national fundraising and hair donation program for kids who have lost their hair due to a medical condition and is run by Variety – the Children’s Charity, who support sick and disadvantaged Australian kids.

The origins of Hair with Heart began in 2007, when former rugby league player Matthew Adamson’s daughter Charlotte was diagnosed with alopecia – an auto-immune condition that causes hair loss.

Building on the amazing work of Matthew, his wife Rebecca, and their volunteers, it has continued to grow – granting wigs to children with alopecia and accepting hair donations to make into wigs for kids and adults with hair loss.

Jedah said she raised the money by posting about the cause on her Facebook page, exceeding her goal of $1000 which she was really proud of.

“The hair is used in making children’s wigs and the money goes towards supporting the purchase of wigs and helping children with chronic illnesses or other diseases that cause hair loss,” she said.

“I had been growing my hair for about two years and so thought why not do something for someone else.

“On top of that my great aunty has alopecia and lost all of her hair when she was very young, she is a great role model and the kindest lady despite what she’s been through and has been wearing wigs for many years.

“My head feels much lighter with so much less hair, but I am so grateful and astonished by the massive support I have received and the generous donations.”

Jedah said she hopes the hair and donations will help some kids in need and she is thankful to have had the opportunity to help, and if anyone would like to donate they can head to hairwithheart.variety.org.au/fundraisers/jedahhuf

Wigs cost families up to $6000, lasting 1-2 years, meaning families can spend tens of thousands of dollars on the purchase of wigs throughout a child’s youth.

By making a donation to Variety - the Children’s Charity, you can help provide a wig or other vital equipment to a child in need.
