‘This Girl Can’ - Wellness for all

SOUTHERN Grampians Shire Council is hosting a morning tea and free fitness workshop at the Hamilton Indoor Leisure & Aquatic Centre (HILAC) for women of all ages to celebrate This Girl Can Week.

The event will be held on Wednesday, October 11 from 9.30-11am at the HILAC cafe (83-93 Shakespeare Street).

This Girl Can Week runs from Monday, October 9 until Sunday, October 15 and celebrates and supports everyday women to get active in ways that suit them – activities are designed to welcome beginners, and those who are curious enough to try something new.

The ‘Wellness for All’ event is a celebration of supporting women of all ages to get active and the importance of movement for both young and the young at heart.

Southern Grampians Shire Council chief executive, Tony Doyle, said that many retirees are looking after their grandchildren while parents are working, and this morning tea and interactive movement session will explore the importance of incorporating movement for all ages from grandchild to grandparent.

“This is a safe and inclusive event designed for fun, connection, and movement - grandparents, grandchildren, and all in between are encouraged to head to HILAC and take some time to focus on health and wellbeing.” he said.

“This event is also the perfect time for those who don’t go to the gym to come and see it. It can be an intimidating environment for some, so we encourage the community to come along.

“Perhaps some will discover that they enjoy it and will continue to go, which is a great thing.”
