DUNKELD resident Elizabeth Petropoulos passed away on October 14 at age 33 after she was diagnosed with Type 3 Neurofibromatosis (NF) in late 2019.
Elizabeth was a mother of two adorable and energetic children, and a wife to Wicked Wildlife owner, Nick Petropoulos.
For much of this year, Elizabeth had been experiencing unexplained pain and gradual loss of movement in her right arm and further investigation resulted in the devastating diagnosis of multiple tumours throughout her body including aggressive cancerous brain tumours.
Mr Petropoulos said all the people reaching out to him and his family had been pretty overwhelming.
“There have been girls at the Obsidian Room fundraising money and a young girl is also cutting her hair to also help raise money which will all be going to Elizabeth’s Legacy,” he said.
“A big part is to raise awareness to help fund research as well as find treatment - Liz wanted to be remembered for something and trying to make the most out of a terrible situation.
“We have currently raised $25,000-$30,000 with money still coming in and people also wanted to host their own events so all the money raised from them will be donated to the page, which will continue to run indefinitely.”
Elizabeth’s funeral will be held on Monday, October 23 at Kanangra Indoor in Yulecart at 12.30pm, with a good showing from the south-west community expected.
Elizabeth’s Legacy was established as an opportunity for Elizabeth to bring hope to others, to shine a light on NF and to help make a difference by raising funds to support NF medical research.
