ONE of the stalwart community shows that has typically graced the pages of The Spectator for a preview (or review) article at this time of year will be missing in 2023, unless you want to count this one informing of its cancellation.
Yulecart show committee member, Jade Roberts, said even in 2019 the show had been struggling to survive, but the COVID lockdown years and an ageing local population in the intervening time had finally made the decision unavoidable, much to her sadness.
“It is really hard,” she said.
“People asking about it (on social media), but we haven’t really posted it.
“We still discussed it, but there was only about seven of us at the meeting, we just can’t.
“The last time we ran it, we didn’t even have anyone on the gate to collect money, we just had to have a box on a chair.”
Ms Roberts said they were looking at alternatives to engage the community.
“We are trying to now change it and do ... less a show and more like a Christmas party and an Easter thing,” she said.
“That’s more something that we can organise without as much help.”
Ms Roberts said the committee was also looking to have an event when the hall has its 100th year in September next year.
