Ping-Pong-a-thon smashes fundraising goal

LAST Saturday, primary school teacher Joshua Schapel hosted the Southern Grampians Ping-Pong-a-thon fundraiser at his workplace - Tarrington Lutheran School - which smashed their target of $4000, so far raising $5809.

All the money that has been raised will help fight against modern day slavery, where last year the lives of over 250 young people were changed forever through the work of the Ping-Pong-a-thon’s partners.

Mr Schapel said those who attended had a great day of ping pong - they watched a couple of recent videos from two pong partners, with one working in education/prevention in Thailand and the other proving support to those recovering from modern slavery closer to home.

“We had some great challenges and rallies including on the long, double table,” he said.

“We had some epic games of round the world - Matt from Pong HQ also popped in to say a few words over video link.

“Most importantly, thanks to the generosity of people in our area and fundraising efforts of those that registered and participated. We smashed our goal of raising $4000 and are not far off raising $6000, which is an amazing effort.”
