A TERRIFIC turnout of 95 motorbikes attended the 30th annual Portland Toy Run on Saturday, and the ride inspired a hefty number of gifts donations for a good cause.
To kick off the journey, the group departed from the Heywood Deli at 10.30am and made their first stop opposite Portland Shell service station, then taking off again 11am toward the foreshore.
The event attracted a large gathering of supporters at the foreshore and encouraged the donation of around 200 toys to the Portland Salvation Army and many people also donated cash as well.
Donations collected will be supporting families in our region who can’t afford to put presents under the tree this Christmas.
Locals are still able to donate, either under the tree at K Hub and Portland District Health Wishing Trees, or by visiting the Salvation Army Portland Corps.
Toy Run organiser David Upton said the weather was perfect on Saturday.
“We were worried at first because we thought it was going to rain, but then it turned out to be a nice day,” he said.
“Figured we probably would have had more people if the weather started off nice. Everyone thought it was going to rain, so it probably turned a few people off.
“It’s always good fun. It was a good social atmosphere, everyone was friendly and talkative.”
