Cut for a cause

PORTLAND Primary students and teachers all came to school in pink on Tuesday, to support grade one student Matilda Barclay who cut her hair to donate to charity.

her hair will be donated to children’s charity Variety to be made into a wig, while money raised to support ‘Matilda’s Brave Chop’ will go to helping to establish a men’s mental health support group.

With donations open for another week and a few more donation tins to pick up and be counted, the total raised will likely tip over $3000.

Matilda’s mother Nea said she is very proud of her daughter’s efforts.

“It’s a very big thing for anyone to do, but certainly a young little girl,” she said.

While there had been some nerves from the usually long-locked Matilda, Ms Barclay said her daughter is happy with her new look.

“She’s loving it, the next morning she was shaking her head around showing it off while we were having brekky, yeah loving it,” she said.

“A special thanks to everybody that donated and supported.”
