Socks for Christmas

LAUNCHED last week for Christmas 2023 was The Professionals Hamilton’s campaign for as many pairs of socks as possible to adorn their tree at the front of their office.

Not that this is the end goal as such - the socks have a much more useful destination - to end up on the feet of needy local families, with the Uniting Church ultimately doing the final distribution.

Socks have a long tradition at this time of year - the legend is that Saint Nicholas threw three bags of gold coins down the chimney of a poor family and the money landed in the stockings of the children; the stockings were hanging by the fire to dry.

Professionals Real Estate Hamilton principal, Melissa Ferrier, said the sock drive - now in its fifth year - provided an essential item for families and admitted the designs can be a bit of fun.

She said they were hoping to better last year’s tally of 365 - 23 more than the year before - and the community was welcome to drop in their donations at their office at 108 Brown Street during business hours up until Thursday, December 21.

“They get picked up (on the following) Friday morning,” Ms Ferrier said.
