THE Cox Street Redevelopment Project works will continue on January 8, requiring Cox Street to be closed from French Street to Gray Street for eight weeks.
Contractor MACA Civil Pty Ltd will demolish and replace the eastern road lane and kerb and install new sub-surface drainage and underground services.
New footpaths will also be constructed on both sides of the road.
Throughout the works, Cox Street will be completely closed from Gray Street to French Street, including
the Gray Street roundabout.
The intersections at Sedgewick Street and French Street/Ballarat Road will be inaccessible.
For pedestrians, temporary road crossings across Cox Street will be made available before the Gray
Street roundabout and at French Street.
Permewans Mitre 10 will operate as usual, however its drive-through onto Cox Street will be closed
until mid-February.
Until then, customers can enter and exit the business from French Street.
Infrastructure and Sustainability director, Marg Scanlon said once this eight-week program was completed, the bulk of road work would be finished at the southern end of Cox Street.
“MACA will then carry out the same works at the northern end of Cox Street between Gray and
Lonsdale streets,” she said.
“Once MACA completes the traffic management plan for the next stage of works, we will share this
with the community as soon as its available.”
Ms Scanlon said the project was progressing as scheduled and she anticipated full completion in April
2024.
“I think, in general, everyone is pleased to see consistent progress now after the delays early in the
project,” she said.
“Council would like to thank local businesses for working with us during this project and the community for their patience throughout disruptions.
