PORTLAND Bay Classics Vehicles is once again hosting their annual Classics by the Bay Show and Shine on February 17, with a few ‘mad’ editions.
The event, held on the Portland foreshore, is one of the top three car shows in Victoria, club president Craig Dennert said, and this is their ninth year running the event.
This year the club is having a Mad Max theme for the show, similar to several years ago when it added some extra excitement.
“There's probably a dozen Mad Max vehicles turning up,” Mr Dennert said.
“We've got the Mad Max boys back, so we've got Roger Ward, who played Fifi Macaffee, we've also got Dale Bensch again, who was the main stunt bike rider, and he's got his original bike.
“Mark Fletcher from Classic Restos, the TV program, comes every year.
“Everyone looks forward to coming down to see him and seeing if they can get their car interviewed.”
The show runs 10am until 4pm and is $5 entry. Drivers of classic vehicles enter for free.
Last year, profits made were donated to the Air Ambulance. Money raised this year will be given to the Portland Coast Guard.
Vehicles brought along can be classic cars, vans, utes and motorbikes.
Mr Dennert said he expects 500 vehicles to be on display.
“We’ve had people come in from Adelaide, New South Wales.
“We had one car from Queensland last year.
There will be a coffee van and food available for spectators feeling peckish.
“It’s Rotary doing the barbecue, Lions are doing the car parking, and the Sea Cadets down there are doing our gates.
“And we pay them, so it’s all money going back into the local community.”
Entry point for a classic vehicle into the show is through the All Abilities Play Space parking lot.
