THE condition of the public toilets situated in the car park behind the performing arts precinct have attracted criticism from visitors regarding the cleanliness and disrepair of the ambulant facility and how difficult the facility is to use.
On January 17, a social media post described the disability toilet as “the most inaccessible facility we have EVER encountered”.
The post also included mentioning the deteriorated condition of the facility “not only was it filthy dirty but the actual toilet bowl did not have a toilet seat to sit on and it was quite evident it hasn’t for some time”.
The post also included photos of the amenities that supported the issues raised, but despite more than a month having passed since this was first brought to the authorities’ attention, a visit by The Spectator to the site earlier this week confirmed there had been no improvement nor repairs carried out.
Southern Grampians Shire Council infrastructure and sustainability director, Marg Scanlon said processes were in place to ensure facilities were maintained and could continue to be used.
“Council has a regular maintenance schedule for all our public amenities, including the toilets in the IGA car park,” she said.
“These are cleaned daily however, if required, we can have teams onsite multiple times during the day.
“Council has made contact with the community member who made the recent complaint to address their concerns.”
Ms Scanlon also said there were ways to report issues and encouraged locals to contact the shire directly with any concerns.
“We encourage community members to contact us via our customer service team or our website with any issues regarding the cleanliness of any of our public facilities,” she said.
“We also ask the members of the public to please help us in keeping these facilities clean so they’re available for use by the entire community.
“Council has a forward program to renew our public facilities to ensure facilities are accessible, meet current standards and are secure.
“This roll out will be undertaken over the coming years, commencing with Glenthompson.”
