Judges impressed at fleece show

HAMILTON and District Legacy Fleece Show again presented a magnificent display of district fleeces with a large number of entries, particularly in the Fine and Medium wool sections.

Judges at this year’s show, David Whyte from Elders, Hamilton and Gary Simpson from Sheep Trax Classing, Dunkeld, were impressed with the quality of this year’s entries.

The past season has produced fleeces with high staple strength, brightness and with good weight.

Generally, the fleeces were well grown, showcasing the districts vast variety of fleeces ranging from Ultrafine Merino to Lincoln.

The Champion Fleece of the show came from Glenara Merinos owned by the Mibus Family at Dunkeld.

The 8.0 kg Superfine fleece of 74’s visual quality showed stylish lustrous fibre – considered to have great character, very sound, and a high wool cut for its type - the aggregate score of this fleece totalled 95 points.

The Most Successful Exhibitor of the Show was Kerrsville Pastoral and the Most Valuable Commercial Fleece of the Show was exhibited by Wayne Grant with a fleece value of $83.20.

Hamilton & District Legacy also wanted to pay special thanks to Kate Methven from Elders, for her help and expertise in classing the fleeces for this year’s show.

Congratulations and thanks also to all the wool producers who donated fleeces to this year’s show, and our helpers from NAB neighbourhood Stewart Tanner, Tash Clark and Kieran Klomp.
