BROWN boobies and red crabs of Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands are the topic of the first special presentation meeting of the Hamilton Field Naturalists Club (HFNC) for 2024 on March 21, at 7.30pm at HIRL.
Four members of the HFNC were lucky enough to travel to Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Island in 2022 and 2023.Heywood’s Peter and Rhonda Barrand led these trips and have been taking small groups of people to these islands for the past 20 years. Peter and Rhonda generously shared their knowledge and love of birds and treated the groups to the best birding spots across these islands.HFNC member Wendy McDonald, presenter for the evening, will showcase the beautiful birds to be seen there and will also cover some of the geology, history, flora, and other fauna of these islands. Members and visitors are all welcome to attend.
