AS with the end of summer, so too marks the end of the pleasant musical Sunday afternoons - ‘Music in the Gardens’ sessions.
Local audiences have made the most of the warmer weather and enjoyed live entertainment each month in the Hamilton Botanic Gardens, the last of which will be this coming Sunday March 24, Sunday, between 2-4pm.
Friends of the Botanic Gardens committee member, Jane Heazlewood, was delighted with the success of the program and said the different bands performing on the Sundays had been a great source of relaxing entertainment evoking a sense of community engagement.
Having missed their earlier afternoon slot in December 2023, MisTaBeaT will be performing this Sunday between 2-4pm and will play some favourite tunes.
MisTaBeat is made up of two accomplished local musicians who both play guitar and sing, Tony Donkers and Eric Ryan.
“Eric plays rhythm guitar and vocals and I play rhythm lead and sing also,” Mr Donkers said.
“We mix it up a bit between ourselves.
“We’ve got a multitude of songs to play - we pick out songs that cater to most - some modern, we play 70s and 80s predominantly - we do a fair bit of country - a few rock songs - some singalong - we cater for all sorts.”
Mr Donkers said he and Mr Ryan had been playing together for around nine years and they always looked forward to the Sunday afternoon sessions in the Hamilton Botanic Gardens.
“We’ve both played in bands since we were teenagers,” he said.
“We play HIRL every month - that’s a regular gig - we recently played at the RSL in Coleraine, and recently in Warrnambool - we also play at a lot of birthdays.”
Mrs Heazlewood encouraged the community to come along and enjoy the last of the Sunday afternoon sessions.
“Share the afternoon with friends and family, bring refreshments and your chair or sit on the grass, and have a great afternoon in our wonderful Botanic Gardens,” she said.
“We look forward to seeing you there.”
