PORTLAND and district residents can keep an eye out their windows for emergency service volunteers who will be roaming the streets on Good Friday.
As done for many years in the past, Portland and district CFA brigades, FRV, Coast Guard and SES will be driving through their respective towns in emergency vehicles seeking people willing to donate to the Royal Childrens Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
The Portland CFA collection will be running from around 8.30am through until they have completely covered the central and West Portland area.
Portland CFA volunteer and coordinator of the collection, Stuart Richardson, said they hope to get six trucks out on the streets.
“Given that people have probably done it a lot tougher in the last 12 months, we're just happy to get whatever we can raise on the day and pass it on to the hospital,” he said.
“A lot of people just wait for the trucks to come pass, especially if they’ve got younger families, the kids are more interested in the fire truck.
“Some groups actually have a fundraiser through here and drop their money off during the day. Some people will come down just to donate and get the receipt for their tax purposes.”
A collection point will also be found out front of Portland CFA.
“I can't tell you how many years the brigades been doing it, but it's probably as long as the appeal’s been running.
“I think the only year we've missed was when we did an online version the year that COVID affected everyone, but other than that, we've always had a presence on the streets.”
