MONIVAE students have enthusiastically signed up for the upcoming World’s Greatest Shave this Thursday, eagerly embracing a tradition that has spanned 14 years at the school.
Faith and Mission director, Danny Franc, expressed excitement about the new cohort of students stepping up to support the worthy cause, with about a dozen year 12 students participating.
“So far our students have raised over $5000 for it as a group,” he said.
The boys will be shaving their hair off while the girls will get a trim and donate their hair - all funds made will be going towards the Leukemia Foundation.
Monivae Student Leader, Alyssa Errey said that through witnessing the struggles faced by people living with cancer, she was more than willing to do her part to contribute to the cause.
“I’m going to be cutting my hair for the World’s Greatest Shave to help raise money to help support those who are suffering after the diagnosis that can change their life,” she said.
“After watching someone I love suffering, I feel the need and want to help those going through such a hard time and give them some financial support for treatments.”
To help raise funds, the school will also be raffling tickets on who gets to cut the student’s hair.
Another participating Monivae student, Hayley Cumming said that she had no hesitation in putting her hand up to contribute to the fundraiser that can help save many lives.
“I chose to do the World’s Greatest Shave as I know that it’s a cause that is dear to many people’s hearts and the thought that I could help raise money for people going through a tough time made cutting my hair all the more meaningful,” she said.
