AIMING to get men to “read more, talk more and have more friends”, the local chapter of the Tough Guy Book Club has been reliably getting eight to 12 men to their monthly meeting, with just two rules to follow - effectively summarised as no work talk, and no rubbish talk.
Organiser, Jack Kennedy started the club over three years ago, and all men over 18 are welcome.
With the April meeting earlier this week relocating at short notice to the Cally after the Commercial Hotel became unavailable, Jack said the May meeting will be at the Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld.
“Whether you have never picked up a book in your life or you read a book a week, as long as you can follow the two rules you’ll fit right in,” he said.
“We also do a challenge every month for example, one month it was to go and get our blood pressure checked, another month it was ‘guerrilla gardening’ to plant a tree on public land, last month’s challenge was to ‘get cultured’ visit a gallery or theatre with at least one other ‘goon’ from club.”
The Hamilton chapter meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 7pm.
