THIS Saturday and Sunday marks an unusual event that brings together an appreciation of mechanical equipment, history and agriculture – the Heywood Tractor Trek.
The event sees participants drive historic tractors through beautiful scenery over a course almost 100 kilometres in length, punctuated by a camp on Saturday night with a two-course meal.
Sunday breakfast is at the Milltown Wood Days with a return to Heywood in time for lunch.
Pieter Erasmus from the Heywood Tractor Trek group says that what makes the event special is that it is held only once a year.
“We are a group of volunteer, it is a bit unique because we get as many tractors as we can together at once,” he said.
The event also raises money for a very worthwhile charity – “Cancer in Kids” (CIKA) which supports children’s’ cancer treatments at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Registration for tractor drivers is just $60 which includes two lunches and the dinner Saturday night; lunch is just $10 both days, and the Saturday night dinner $30 for adults and $15 for children under 10.
The Heywood Tractor Trek provides an opportunity to appreciate the historic mechanical equipment that has played such an important part in the development of the regional agricultural sector whilst supporting a deserving charity.
