FOLLOWING a community rally the morning after the Southern Grampians Shire Council’s (SGSC) decision to close the Glenthompson War Memorial Swimming Pool, a further meeting was held in the Glenthompson CFA fire shed last Thursday night.
The meeting was attended by around ten community members who said they were continuing the fight to keep the pool open.
It was an informal gathering to garner support and to discuss the community’s ongoing concern that the SGSC decided to close the pool at its last ordinary meeting, Wednesday April 10, to close the pool.
Cr Katrina Rainsford attended given her support to see the pool remain open.
Cr Rainsford stated her concerns that two reports on (the pool) and toilets, had not been made public.
She said both reports put the “expenditure on toilets and the swimming pool in a very favourable light - cheaper to maintain and in better condition than other facilities”.
“The brick toilet has already been demolished,” she said.
“But there should not be action on the Glenthompson Memorial Swimming Pool site until an independent review of Council processes is undertaken.”
Glenthompson resident, Jenny Rankin attended the meeting and said the group was presently considering what action it may take.
