HAMILTON North Fire Brigade are leading a fuel reduction burn off at the Hamilton Parklands Bandicoot Enclosure tomorrow, with support from local volunteers.
With the region seeing ongoing dry and warm weather, the proposed fuel reduction work was planned to reduce the fire risk to the community of Hamilton and protect valuable ecological species within the reserve.
CFA continue to encourage all community members to have a bushfire plan throughout the Fire Danger Period and ensure properties were well prepared, including ensuring residents have cleaned their gutters, removed fuels and trimmed back any vegetation from around their homes.
Firefighters will conduct the burn off for several hours before allowing the controlled burn to subside as the evening air comes in.
Local firefighters will patrol the area for the several days post burn.
Smoke will be seen coming from the reserve and will settle in the township in the evening.
Some smoke may remain at lower levels throughout the day and particularly during the evening and early morning. Rain is expected on Monday.
People sensitive to smoke should close their windows tomorrow and avoid hanging their washing out.
