FOLLOWING Southern Grampians Shire Council’s (SGSC) decision to close the Glenthompson War Memorial Swimming Pool, concerned Glenthompson community members have banded together to form a new group called the Glenthompson Pool Committee Inc.
Vowed to fight Council’s decision they have lodged a complaint with the Victorian Ombudsman.
In their submission they said, “Council decided to close the Glenthompson War Memorial Swimming Pool without adequate consultation”.
SGSC chief executive, Tony Doyle said Council would prepare a response to the complaint if and when requested to by the Ombudsman.
“However, we reiterate that we undertook consultation with the Glenthompson community across three separate sessions in late 2023,” he said.
“Given it is only open three months of the year, Council is working with the community to develop community assets in Glenthompson which will be more widely utilised and available to provide community benefit all year round”.
The Glenthompson Pool Committee Inc will hold a public meeting for concerned community members in the Glenthompson War Memorial Hall tonight at 6.30pm.
