Rocco’s Dance for Sick Kids

HAMILTON’S Rocco Causer, 8, took a step on the dance floor last week to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charity, (RMHC) Dance for Sick Kids.

The seven-day fundraising challenge has helped to support sick kids and their families by means of family-centred services and support, including accommodation.

Rocco said, “I dance every day, so why don’t I raise money for those sick kids that also love to dance but can’t because they are too unwell.”

He started off his challenge with a goal of raising $250, but after raising that amount in less than 24 hours he bumped his goal up to $700.

Since then, the young dancer has smashed his goal and so far, raised an impressive $2706 with support from friends, family, local community members, local businesses and his school, St Mary’s Primary School.

Rocco’s school held A Touch of Colour Day, where staff and students paid a gold coin to wear a touch of colour and all money raised went towards his fundraising.

As one of the RMHC top fundraisers, he will have his name placed on the Superstar Wall at Ronald McDonald House, Westmead.

Rocco said he was also excited to have been invited to a tour of one of the charity’s houses.

So far, he has raised enough money for 16 nights’ accommodation for a sick child and their family to be together as they face a difficult time in their lives.

Throughout the challenge he has danced over 27 hours and has posted two dances on Facebook, Blame it on the Boogie by The Jackson 5 and the 1952 classic, Singing in the Rain.

Rocco currently takes dance classes in jazz, acrobatics, classical and contemporary and will be competing at the Hamilton Eisteddfod his year with a jazz solo and in the contemporary troupe.

He is a natural performer who loves dance, performing arts and the stage.
