Three Balls takes on Rally

STARTING this Friday June 14, Hamilton’s Brett Causer and best mate Dean Allan from Geelong are set for the adventure of a lifetime when they join a convoy of teams in Shitbox Rally, Australia’s largest independently-run fundraiser for the Cancer Council.

The Shitbox Rally is not a race, it’s a challenge to drive cars worth $1500 or less across Australia via some of its toughest roads to raise money for cancer research.

This remarkable event has raised more than $46 million since the first rally in 2010.

To participate, each team must raise a minimum of $5000 with a target of $2 million for the rally.

Team Three Balls entered the challenge to help raise funds in memory of Barry, Chris & Pim supporting the ongoing Cancer research efforts of the Cancer Council.

Driving a bright red, 2000 Hyundai Accent, Brett said, “we’ve taken inspiration from stories about St Nicholas who according to legend, had saved three young girls from destitution by loaning each a bag (ball) of gold”.

“We’re hoping our efforts will continue to help others through the ongoing support of the Cancer Council’s research efforts,” he said.

“We’ve almost reached our fundraising target of $10,000 for this rally, we’ve outfitted the little Hyundai to hopefully allow us to make it through the full journey and are really looking forward to this adventure in memory of our and other’s loved ones.”

Box Rallies (Shitbox Rally, Mystery Box Rally and Cancer Cruise) James Freeman OAM, founder and chief executive who lost both of his parents to cancer within 12 months of each other, said, “Shitbox Rally is not a race, but a reward for fundraising efforts”.

“This is a chance to explore Australia, drawing teams from around the country to help achieve the extraordinary,” he said.

“On this rally, we will be heading north from Melbourne through the green plains of Victoria to the vast Hay plains before travelling to the wonders of the Australian outback via some iconic remote watering holes such as Silverton and Tibooburra, this will be a well-deserved break from the red dust and dirt.

“We then begin the process of hooking into the Simpson Dessert which will include calling into both Betoota and Birdsville on the one day. We then head north to one of Australia’s most remote outback stations which leads us to the last day traversing the bull dust holes on the Plenty Highway making our way into Alice Springs for the finish line.

“This will most certainly be another epic adventure on some of Australia’s toughest outback roads supporting the local communities as we go.”
