MEMBERS and friends of the Peter Francis Points Arboretum joined with the Coleraine and District Development Association last month for a working bee at ‘The Points’.
The sunshine encouraged a strong contingent of volunteers to attend, including Southern Grampians Shire Council mayor, Cr David Robertson.
With rakes at the ready, they made light work of the leaf litter around the barbecue and information areas and carted away numerous trailer loads.
The Points Committee have been engaging with Parks Victoria and other community groups to ensure this popular local attraction continues to welcome a regular flow of tourists.
The barbecue has recently been upgraded and the volunteers tested it out – and enjoyed a sausage and a chat over lunch as they admired their handiwork.
The committee has been keen to see the extensive collection of native plants, one of the oldest and most diverse plant collections of Australian native trees in the world, restored to its former glory.
Along with the more practical work of tidying around the site, they have commenced work to update the plant records.
New members and volunteers who are interested in identifying and cataloguing native trees are welcomed to get involved, and to contact the committee at enquiries@thepoints.org.au
