School staff get slimed

THREE teachers received a bucket of slime poured over their heads at last week’s Portland Primary School assembly.

For over a month, PPS have been collecting donations to fund their grade 5 and 6 camp this year, but with a slimy twist.

Tins picturing nine staff members had been sitting at the school office, available to drop a coin or note into. Students, parents, or members of the community could donate to the tin of which staff member they wanted to see bucketed in slime.

Last Friday the school held their weekly assembly outside, where students excitedly began to chant “Elijah”, who was one of the staff up for the slime bucket.

Acting principal Rai Cullen said rather than sliming two, like originally planned, there would be three instead.

The top three were then revealed. Raising $600 was Elijah Roberts, $566 was Mallory Fleming, and $465 was Tye O’Connell.

Other staff in the run happily poured the buckets of green slime over the three while students and parents watched and laughed.

“I would like to share the total amount that we have raised so far, which has exceeded our expectations,” Ms Cullen said at the assembly.

“We've raised just under $1,000 from local businesses, as well as lots of money from you, your families and the community.

“In total, to go towards the cost of our buses for grade 5 and 6 camp, is $2,863.

“We are about $1200 short for the bus still, but I think it's worked out about $40 off each kid's camp cost, which is incredible.

“There may still be some more fundraising just in school, like a dress up day and things like that. We're just overwhelmed with how much got donated.”
