FOLLOWING reports from locals who said they had observed that the blades at the Macarthur Wind Farm had not been turning for some months, enquiries were recently made to the wind farm operator AGL.
An AGL spokesperson advised that they had not been turning for several months for two reasons.
Firstly, the first half of this year, there had been a particularly low incidence of wind without which the turbines do not turn.
“In recent months there has been low levels of wind recorded across southern Australia, with June experiencing the lowest levels in several years,” they said.
“This has been a big issue.
“This resulted in the Macarthur Wind Farm experiencing low utilisation rates in recent months.
“There has also been some scheduled maintenance.
“The wind farm is currently undergoing repairs and maintenance following a failure at a transformer at the Tarrone substation in June.
“We expect this to be resolved by end of July.”
The Macarthur Wind Farm is one of the largest in Australia, with 140 turbines.
