Students take their photography skills around town

BUNDARRA Primary School students recently spent a day of the Hands on Learning program testing their photography skills out on the town.

Bundarra’s Hands on Learning program takes on 10 individual grade 5 and 6 students for each semester, teaching them skills such as gardening, cooking, crafting and photography.

Students get to take part in these activities for one period every Monday.

Coordinator Nick Oats took the students for a walk through the town and set them a few photography challenges.

“We walked down from school. We started off in Gawler Street, then we've been up to Julia Street,” Mr Oats said.

“Our themes for today have been the ocean and doors.

“The kids have also been challenged to get the numbers one to 20. So, they were finding house numbers, finding numbers on manhole covers, and we went inside the Macs and took a photo of the table numbers.”

Students were allowed bring along their phones or a photography camera for the excursion.

Mr Oats said all their door themed photos will be put on a display board.

Previously owning his own photography business, Mr Oats was excited to give the students tips.

“I was telling them to be conscious of shadows, the sun, look for unusual angles like lie on your belly and take a photo. I try to give them a little bit of coaching which they're very receptive to, and they love it,” he said.
