Tree Planting Event to celebrate 35 Years of Landcare

PIERREPOINT Land Protection Group are celebrating 35 years of Landcare and National Landcare Week with a tree planting event this Sunday (tomorrow).

The event will be held at local artist, Jenni Mitchell and partner Mervyn Hannan’s Petschels Lane property.

Jenni and Mervyn have 400 native trees to plant in a native bush patch they hope one day will attract and support birds and other native wildlife.

Local Landcare facilitator, Lucy Cameron said residents should take up the opportunity to do a feel-good deed this weekend at Jenni and Mervyn’s property.

“Community tree planting days are great way to spend a couple of hours,” she said.

“You get to help the local environment, plus you always meet lots of nice people and feel so satisfied by the end of the job.

“But personally, I think getting a close-up look at Jenni and Mervyn’s beautiful garden will be a drawcard for a lot of people.”

The planting event will be held on Sunday, August 11 at ‘Petschel House’, 107 Petschels Lane, Hamilton at 1.30pm, and volunteers are asked to wear appropriate footwear, weather protection and bring their own gloves. Jenni and Mervyn’s project is funded by the Victorian Government through the Victorian Landcare Grants program.
